Perfect glider tuning involves so much more than optimizing the balance point and is one of the hardest skills to learn in R/C soaring. You need to harmonize all aspects of the glider's mechanical and rigging set up, the radio programming and personal piloting ergonomics to really make the glider work magically as a team with it’s human pilot. The ultimate goal of tuning is to have your plane reach it's designed glide performance and have the pilot be able to fly it at that level of performance a high percentage of the time with minimal pilot workload.

Many of my earlier training videos cover the basics of tuning and radio set up, but with the Precision Tuning Techniques project, I wanted to dive deeper into some of the finer aspects of glider tuning and share with you my easy to learn tuning work flow developed over 30 years of flying sailplanes for sport and competition. This video's goal is help you finish the fine tuning of any thermal or slope glider so it will fly smoothly with minimal pilot workload while flying at the edge of it's performance envelope. (I do recommend studying the Performance Tuning and Radio Programming Clinic training programs as a prerequisite to this new video)

Some of what's in this new video may contradict some aspects of standard tuning protocol, so be prepared for some new looks at the old rules. I'm going to cover ways of tuning the v-tail, how to optimizing specialty mixes like snap-flap/camber/elevator mix, fine tuning aileron differential to maximize roll rate, how to make a custom aileron to rudder mix program, how to properly test for proper CG without the dive test, and how to fly aft CG's without loosing resolution or using exponential curves. I'll finish off the video with my tuning evaluation work flow I use to quickly identify handling or radio programming problems on a new glider or one that has been set up wrong.

This is going to be THE best video to learn how to get peak performance from any glider you own.
